Mattijs Visser: I can imagine that the Socle du Monde Biennale could become a new platform to challenge artists to experiment with as well the past as with the future. That Herning and Piero Manzoni wrote world history makes it evident to pick up the past and continue challenging the future, in Herning! I want people to know that in Herning the world is placed on a socle and thus the centre of the world. Untill now no other artist had the courage to make such an definite artwork.
The Socle du Monde is a hommage to artist Piero Manzoni, that becomes a stage for all those great artists before or after him, who took up the challenge to place our world and our being upside down.
The VII Socle du Monde will take place in and around the Heart Herning Museum of Contemporary Art and is conceived by Mattijs Visser. The VII Sockle uses various venues and is curated by a team including Maria Finders, Daniel Birnbaum, Olivier Varenne, Jean Hubert Martin and Heart Director Holger Reenberg. Mattijs Visser will curate the ZERO section at the Heart museum.
